To know Jesus Christ as Savior
and make Him known through: Spirit-filled worship, passionate
evangelism, loving fellowship, obedience to scripture, support of
worldwide missions, and service to our community.
“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He will.” (Proverbs 21:1)
We live during a time in which it has become quite popular to protest
and defy our government authorities, yet as Christians, we are faced
with a dilemma. When the New Testament was written, the Roman Empire
was led by the Emperor Nero who brutalized Christians and may very well
have been insane. Yet, Christians were told to “submit to every human
institution...to the emperor as the supreme authority” (1 Peter 2:13)
and to “honor the emperor” (1 Peter 2:17); to “submit to the
authorities that are over him for there is no authority which is not
from God” (Romans 13:1).
We are also told to “pray for kings and all those in authority” (1
Timothy 2:1-2). This verse in proverbs gives us the reason that
Christians need to do all of this. It doesn’t matter who the President
of the United States is, his heart “is a stream of water in the hand of
the Lord” and God can “turn it wherever He will”! Prayer is the most
powerful tool that Christians have and as we pray for our leaders, we
can watch as God works miraculous things in the hearts of our leaders.
When we hear or see things that we don’t agree with, let’s bring those
things to God and as all Christians unite in prayer, let us watch and
see the wonderful things that God is doing and will do in the future.
May God bless us as we come to Him in prayer and honor those whom God
has placed in authority over us!
