Verse of The Day

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters dwell in unity”. (Psalm 133:1)“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers and sisters dwell in unity”.  (Psalm 133:1)

The psalmist tells us how pleasant it is when brothers and sisters are united.  The reverse of that must also be true — it is most unpleasant when brothers and sisters are disunited.  But what does it mean to be united?  Each one of us walks a different road each week.  We all have different jobs and responsibilities.  We all have a different circle of friends, co-workers, neighbors, relatives, and acquaintances.  So, when this psalm is telling us to be united, it does not mean that we all become robots and think the exact same thoughts, say the same words, and do the same things.

It does mean that we show love for God and for our neighbor and how we do that is going to be different because each one of us have different gifts.  We live in a time when there is a great deal of hatred and turmoil that is being propagated by political leaders and in the news media.  But our mission as Christians is to proclaim the love and grace of Jesus Christ to a world that desperately needs Him.  This is one of the main reasons that God is blessing our church so wonderfully.

Within our church, some of our members are Republicans, some are Democrats, some are Independents, but those are relatively minor issues within the church.  We love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ because we recognize that one hundred years from now it will make little difference what political party we were affiliated with, but how we have responded to Jesus Christ will be of utmost importance.  This is also why within the church there are no racial or ethnic barriers because it does not matter what family we were born into—it does matter what spiritual family we have been adopted into.  In Christ, we are all equal and part of the family of God.  Let us rejoice with all of our brothers and sisters as we celebrate our common unity in Jesus Christ!
